Today, she is being escorted to Bontoc for her burial. She is in my thoughts and prayers. I think my emotions are best described with this sweet Hawaiian song written by Queen Liliʻuokalani.
To Auntie Puring,
Aloha 'oe, aloha 'oe, (Farewell to thee, farewell to thee,)
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo, (Thou charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers)
One fond embrace A ho'i a'e au, ('Ere I depart)
Until we meet again.
Aloha 'oe, aloha 'oe, (Farewell to thee, farewell to thee,)
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo, (Thou charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers)
One fond embrace
Until we meet again.

ReplyDeletecondolence... it's easy to accept death as an impersonal and inevitable concept, and yet when it happens, nothing is more devastating or final than the realization that we're losing an important part of our existence. i guess this is where memories can help assuage the pain :(
