Where Does Sleep Go?

It's passed 12 AM, but I am nowhere near being sleepy. This happened last night too - not to mention the other nights, as I tossed and turned until 3 AM. Funny thing is, even if I slept that late, I'd still be out and about at 7 AM. In my younger years, I do remember sleeping like a log and waking up as late as 10 AM. I sorely miss those days. Ugh, I really sound old. I keep wondering what the heck happened. Why sleep is evading me these days? Even at nights I do get some sleep, I would wake up even to the softest click or chirp. It was two years ago when I realized that I have unwillingly become a light sleeper who suffers from insomnia from time to time.

Is this all part of growing old? Have I succumbed to the damaging effects of stress and anxiety? If one cannot sleep, where does sleep go?

i also feel the same way. i missed my younger days when I could sleep until the sun was already high up. having sleeping problems is really a burden. the next day, you feel tired already. hay.

  3. i think our bodies adjust to a certain clock that when get up early everyday, even when we sleep late, maaga pa rin tayo nagigising. i actually haven't gotten up later than 10 am even if i'm puyat the previous night. bad trip nga ano?

  4. I'm also like that. But most especially if I am stressed or thinking something important.

  5. hi kayni. i'm like that, too. i find it difficult to sleep no earlier than 12 am. then i'd feel so sleepy the following day. so i drink mugs of coffee to keep awake, which then makes it more difficult for me to sleep at night. it's like a vicious cycle. (sigh)

  8. Cher, I do hope you'll get your sleep back. I guess you're still adjusting.

Kg, I keep wondering what I'm doing wrong, but with all these comments, I don't feel alone anymore.

Jehan, Even if I try to stay in bed after 7 AM, I can't sleep anymore.

  9. Where does sleep go? Good question. Maybe the sandman saves it all and puts it in his sack, giving it to those who are extra tired, to those who need to escape to slumberland much sooner than others do.

  10. I get up at 5am everyday even if I slept very late. I agree it has something to do with body clock adjustment as we get wiser, errr, as we age.

  15. Where does our sleep go? To the brain. If I don't sleep, I can't think.. so yes, definitely, the brain.

  16. Obscure, I'd feel energetic in the morning, but I'd be in dire need of a nap in the afternoon.

Caryn, I have the same question. I think it's the stress.

    Jackie, You have a point.
