Travel: Sagada

Sagada is my mom's hometown. Although I grew up far from it, since I was born and raised in the province of Kalinga, this place has always been near and dear to my heart. I visit Sagada whenever I visit the Philippines, and enjoy the peace and relaxation I find in this beautiful place. The following photos were taken in the summer of 2007.

St. Mary's Church

I love how the houses were built on the side of this mountain

Sagada Weaving

Waterfalls

Rice fields

Harvesting Cabbage

Hanging coffins

Lucky you live here

This was the beautiful sunrise that greeted me. At this time, I was on my way down to Bontoc to catch my bus ride to Kalinga.

  3. I really miss Sagada. I didn't know you grew up in Kalinga. I was born in Sagada, but I spent my early years in Gobgob, Tabuk where my mom taught and my dad farmed. It was a simple life - but a most memorable one at that.

Our family moved to Sagada for good after my dad passed away. I speak both Ilokano and Kan-kana-ey.

  5. I had a friend from college who's from Sagada. If only I wasn't an impoverished student back then, I would have tagged along to see the place!

  7. Beautiful! I really, really wish to find time to visit Sagada. My closest went there and told me that it's now one of her favorite places. Since I so envy her, she gave me a weaved traveling bag that she got from Sagada. It's with me here. =)

I also remember the areas of Sagada (with Baguio's Ayuyang Bar) which were featured in the local movie Don't Give Up on Us.

  8. Sleepless, Maybe you can do a trip one of these days.

Lene, That is my plan. I intend to live there after my projects are through here. I do hope your plan will work out. Keep me updated.

Artemis, It is my favorite shot.

Wits, Do find the time to visit when you have the chance. It's a bit far, and the travel is a bit rough, but being in the mountains is such a wonderful feeling.

Kero, Yes, you and Manong will have a great time there. I'm sure the relatives will take good care of you.

Fren, I'm glad you mentioned tapuy...but definitely the hospitality. It seems that whenever I go there, everyone is my cousin or auntie...lol.

I used to go there regularly during high school when my uncle was still the rector at St. Mary's church. :)
